Hadley Beckett's Next Dish by Bethany Turner

Arrgg… I almost loved this book.

I’m always down for a good “enemies to lovers” romance, so I had pretty high expectations for this one. Unfortunately, it felt like it missed a couple rounds of editing. Something about it just wasn’t quite there.

Hadley Beckett and Maxwell Cavanaugh are both celebrity chefs who can’t stand each other after Max has a massive public breakdown during their TV cooking competition. They end up having to work together to pull off their dream of being on the hit show, Renowned.

I loved the idea of characters being high profile chefs competing against each other. However, the entire storyline felt like a long conversation between Hadley and Max that whiplashed from anger to misunderstanding to attraction to frustration and back to misunderstanding. And while I understand the need for romantic tension, the fact that it was such a clean rom com made for very little actual romantic tension.

This was my first book by @seebethanywrite, and I’m definitely open to reading her next release. This one was so close, and I feel like it can only go up from here right?!
